Based on the origin story of the riotous and ground-breaking Irish-language rap trio Kneecap, the film stars the band’s Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí in their acting debuts alongside Academy Award® nominated Michael Fassbender with Simone Kirby, Jessica Reynolds, Fionnuala Flaherty and Josie Walker.
Set in west Belfast in 2019, it chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they then go on to “change the sound of Irish music forever”.
Winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2024.
Directed by Rich Peppiatt.

People did listen to Irish hip hop, and that was a huge problem for these lads, so it looks like the film won’t mention at all that their popularity was literally borne from state intervention with various mediums to cancel another act. This looks great! I was born in Wales, but grew up in Belfast, then moved back to Wales when i was 12. Moved to a small town and got bullied for my strong northern irish accent so made myself lose it. I feel sad that i did that, im so proud of my roots in Belfast. Will defo be watching this wuth my boy, he's 12 and loves rap music.
